Students can paste an assignment into a class chat today, and the class learning mode applies to the help they get. Nexus labels pasted text as pasted and does not fetch the source link.

a connection that brings class materials from Google Classroom into a Nexus class. It has not run against a school's real Google Classroom yet, and it is not part of the next release.

Gemini is already in Classroom. What Nexus adds

Since Aug 10, 2026, the Gemini tab in Google Classroom has opened to students of all ages wherever admins had already granted Gemini, with starter prompts that pull in the class and assignment. Nexus adds what Gemini leaves open for students: a class learning mode they cannot switch off, teacher review of class chats with notice to students, and models from other providers your school approves. Google's Gemini API terms bar use in services "likely to be accessed by individuals under the age of 18," so Nexus does not offer Gemini to students. Your school keeps Gemini for the uses it already has.

Google sign-in, and what it does not share

People sign in to Nexus with Google. Nexus asks only for OpenID, email and profile, and a person joins your school only when an administrator enrolls their exact email address or sends a single-use invitation to it, never because of an email domain. Signing in with Google does not give Nexus access to your Classroom courses or Drive files; those scopes are not requested.

A Classroom pilot today

Keep Classroom as the home for assignments. Create a Nexus class for each pilot section, enroll students by their school Google addresses, and set the class learning mode. Students copy the assignment from Classroom into a class chat when they need help. Teachers can review class chats in Nexus; students are told when they can.
