Student help: tools in Rooms, or open help with a locked mode
In MagicSchool, a student uses the tools a teacher puts in a Room. That keeps AI use inside a teacher's plan. It also means a student who is stuck at home on a different assignment needs a Room that covers it.
In Nexus, a student opens a chat in any class they belong to. The class learning mode decides how much help they get: hints, step-by-step guidance, or a full answer with critique. The student cannot turn the mode off, and they are told when their teacher can review the chat.
Visibility
MagicSchool lets teachers and district admins view all student interactions in real time, and tells students so. Nexus shows teachers class chats only, keeps personal chats out of teacher view, and records who opened each class conversation. Choose the model that matches your school's privacy expectations for students.
Safety
MagicSchool sends alerts in-app and by email, and in June 2026 added severity levels and escalation to school teams. Nexus is a study assistant, not a counselor. Before any student uses Nexus at your school, we set up a safety route with you.

When Nexus may be the better fit
- You want one approved AI students use for schoolwork in every class, instead of a consumer chatbot on their phones.
- You want the school to choose which models each class can use.
- You want personal chats not shown to teachers and a log of every staff read.
Using both
Teacher AI and student AI solve different problems. A school can keep MagicSchool for teacher tools and give students Nexus for help on their own assignments. Read teacher AI vs student AI for how schools split the two.
