Compare school AI platforms
Who picks the models, which rules students cannot switch off, and what staff can see. Dated, sourced comparisons of the AI products schools are weighing for students.
[ HOW TO COMPARE ]
Compare by what students can and cannot switch off
Most school AI products now offer a chat window. The differences that matter to a school sit underneath it: who picks the models, which rules students cannot leave, what staff can see, and what happens when a student needs a person.
These pages compare Nexus with the products schools ask us about most. Each one dates its facts, names its sources, and says where the other product may be the better fit. Plans and features change, so confirm current details with each vendor before you decide.
The main options at a glance
Facts as of Oct 18, 2026, from each vendor's own pages and the sources listed on each comparison. Prices and plans change often.

Four kinds of school AI
Products fall into a few groups, and the group often matters more than the brand:
- Assistants built into a school suite, such as Gemini for Education and Microsoft Copilot Chat. They come with licenses a school already has.
- Activity platforms, such as SchoolAI, MagicSchool's student Rooms and Brisk Boost. Teachers build or assign an AI activity, and students work inside it.
- Tutors inside a curriculum, such as Khanmigo inside Khan Academy content.
- An approved AI for everyday schoolwork, such as Nexus: open help on any assignment, under each class's rules.
Web filters such as Lightspeed, GoGuardian and Securly now add AI monitoring on school devices, and Alpha School is a private-school model rather than a software product. Both have their own pages below.
Run the same test in every product
A fair comparison keeps the task the same. Pick one real assignment and try it from a student account in each product:
- Ask a normal homework question and look at the help the student gets.
- Ask for the final answer and see whether the class rule holds.
- Ask for something the class rule forbids and see what the teacher can review afterward.
Write down the date, the plan and the settings you tested. Keep the failures as well as the good answers. Our pilot evaluation rubric and IT review checklist turn this into a scored review.

Questions and answers
What is the best AI platform for high school students?
It depends on what your school needs students to keep doing themselves. Compare who picks the models, which rules students cannot switch off, what teachers can see, and how each product handles a student who needs a person. Test each one with the same assignment.
Are these comparisons written by Nexus?
Yes. We wrote them, so we compete with the products we describe. We date every fact, link the source, and include where each product may be the better fit. Tell us at support@narb.cc if a fact has changed.
Does Nexus claim better learning results than these products?
No. Nexus is built to keep students doing the thinking, but it has no outcome data yet. Our pilots check what students can do on their own afterward, and we will publish what we find with its method.
How often are these pages updated?
We re-check each comparison when a vendor changes its plans or features, and at least each term. Each page shows the date its facts were checked.
