Google Drive Overview
Overview of the Google Drive connector
Availability depends on your school's enabled tools, provider setup, and account permissions. These settings are managed in the web workspace. A class policy may restrict a feature described here.
How it works#
The Google Drive connector indexes documents in your Drive. Currently, it supports:
Google: Docs, Sheets, and Slides
Microsoft: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
PDF, CSV, and TXT files
Certain other document, plaintext, and image files
Setting up#
Note: This Connector is relatively involved to set up.
[Recommended] If you want to setup the connector via Service Accounts, follow the guide here. This does require a business Google Workspace / access to the Admin panel. If you are an organization that meets these pre-requisites, then this is likely the preferred approach.
If you want to setup the connector via individual account OAuth, follow the guide here. This does not require a business Google Workspace.
If you have any questions about the setup / which approach is best for you, don't hesitate to reach out to Nexus support OR
@Yuhong Sun/@Chris Weaverin Slack if you need help.
You can set up more than one Google Drive connector on a single Nexus instance, each with its own credential and service account. This lets you index multiple Google Workspaces from one Nexus deployment.
Before using this source with students#
Start with approved course material. Check which documents the connector can retrieve and how it maps source permissions. Test with a student account and a teacher account before widening access. A successful sync does not prove that the intended class boundary is correct.
Use source troubleshooting when a document is missing or visible to the wrong audience.
