Connect selected Wikipedia pages
Build a focused Wikipedia source for research and source evaluation.
An operator must configure this source in your workspace. These steps describe the connector code; they do not mean your school has connected an account.
Choose a language#
Open connector settings and select Wikipedia. Enter the language code for the edition you want to use. For example, en selects English Wikipedia and es selects Spanish Wikipedia.
This connector uses Wikipedia's site directly. Use the MediaWiki connector for a different wiki host.
Choose pages or categories#
Enter page titles in Pages, rather than full URLs. For a focused assignment, start with the pages the teacher has selected.
You can also enter category names in Categories to index. Set a recursion depth to limit nested categories. A depth of -1 allows unrestricted recursion; a smaller depth makes the scope easier to review.
Check the source#
Wait for the indexing run to complete. Search for a distinctive sentence from a selected page. Open its citation and confirm the page title and language.
Wikipedia is a reference source, not a guarantee that a generated answer is correct. Ask students to follow citations, examine the article's supporting sources, and explain how they reached their conclusion.
Keep the assignment focused#
Use class instructions to explain which sources students should consult and what they should evaluate. Model instructions guide the response; the connector's page and category selection controls which Wikipedia material this connection indexes.
If an expected page is absent, check its title in the selected language and review the indexing run. Page titles can differ between language editions.
